Connect Integration - Skyward SMS

For our Skyward Connect integration, for Students, Staff, Classes, and Enrollment we will use a OneRoster export. For the Guardian file we will export separately from SkyBuild EF. The following are the steps to create the exports and configure them for nightly delivery to our Apptegy server:

Navigating to OneRoster

  1. Ensure you are logged into the district entity.

  2. Click Administration in the top navigation bar.

  3. Under the Skybuild heading, click Exports.

  4. On the next screen, select OneRoster Export - OR.

Creating the OneRoster Extract

  1. From the OneRoster Export page, click Add. (A new dialog box titled "OneRoster Export Maintenance" will open.)

  2. In the OneRoster Export Maintenance dialog box, make the following changes:

    • Template Description: Apptegy Rooms

    • Export Version: OneRoster v1.1

    • Enable the Send File Via FTP Files option, then click FTP Connection to input the following details:

    • Protocol: SFTP (with SSH)

    • Host: Use the "Server" field information from the 1Password link.

    • Port: 22

    • Path: If no path is listed in the 1Password link, leave this field empty.

    • Username: (from 1Password)

    • Password: (from 1Password)

    • Check the option for UTF-8 encoding.

  3. Click Save.

  4. In the Student Identifier Type dropdown, confirm the type used by the district. It is often Other ID.

  5. Under Version Specific Options - v1.1, change all options from "Do Not Export" to "Bulk".

Click Grade Xref. For any grade level marked "Yes" under Override Needed, select the appropriate level from the Grade Level Override dropdown (typically for K or PK grade levels). If unsure how to map these levels, leave them unmapped students with unmapped grades will not be included in the export.

Scheduling the OneRoster Export

  1. After configuration, click Save and Print in the top-right corner of the OneRoster Export Maintenance page.

  2. In the Processing Request window, click My Print Queue to view the status of the export job, which will likely display as "Running."

  3. To schedule the export, click Tasks, then Schedule This.

  4. Set the desired time, days, and months for the export to run (daily, excluding weekends, anytime between 1 AM and 5 AM in your time zone).

  5. Under Additional Export Options, set the Spreadsheet Format to CSV.

  6. Verify the FTP connection is configured to send the export to the Apptegy server, then click Save.
